Free Health Insurance Checkup for NH Small Businesses

January 29, 2009

Concord, NH – New Hampshire businesses, like those around the country, are cutting costs to make it through tough economic times, and health insurance is one of the line items being scrutinized. That's especially true for small businesses, and it's the driver behind a new offering from the Community Loan Fund’s MicroCredit-New Hampshire. Free information is now available for small companies and self-employed Granite Staters, with the goal of helping them stretch resources to keep health coverage in place for their employees and families.

Director David Hamel says a new Web site is full of details about how to compare health care plans.

"It's an impartial way to go about it, so they don't have to feel the pressure of an agent trying to push a particular product."

Just getting through health insurance language can be difficult, according to Hamel. The free tools they're offering translate the jargon into "plain English."

"We outline the terms of different policies, what could be included and what's not included, and help them understand different definitions, deductibles, and so forth."

The Web site, www.nhbusinesshealthoptions.com, does not recommend any specific health insurance company or plan. Hamel says small companies don’t have human resource departments to evaluate health insurance plans, so MicroCredit-New Hampshire is offering easy-to-use tools to help business owners make those assessments.

Free charts are also available to help business owners compare health plans "apples-to-apples."
