Using New Technologies To Rev Up NH Small Businesses

Concord, NH – Facebook – it's not just for your friends, says David Hamel, director of MicroCredit–New Hampshire. Small businesses in the state have long been the driving force behind its economy, but with the economic downturn, many have been forced to cut back, lay off employees or even close their doors. Hamel says says now is a great time to get creative and take advantage of all of the new, free technology that's available, such as social networking sites.

"The new social media sites are a way to stay updated, stay connected, to network with other business owners, and that's going to elevate the status of micro-enterprises."

Hamel says there is much to gain for small businesses by learning more about new technology that can put them on a more even footing with larger or more advanced companies. He says that once you do get out there, it's important to keep your information current.

"You still have to have an updated presence so that your Facebook page reflects the current status of your business - not what happened last year."

Hamel says many small business owners in the state simply lack the information needed to utilize the new technologies, which is why MicroCredit–New Hampshire - a nonprofit that helps small businesses - will hold a one-day conference on May 28th, called the Entrepreneurial Exchange. It will afford small businesses the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and network.
