Early voting begins on Thursday for Kentucky's Primary Election and runs through May 18.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day, May 21. Kentuckians will vote for state legislative and local offices, nominate candidates for Congress and nominate their pick for the next U.S. president.

Scott Wegnast, communications manager for AARP Kentucky, said 50+ voters reliably show up in high numbers for every election.

"Social Security solvency, family support for caring for loved ones, older workers in the workforce," Wegnast outlined. "These are all big economic pocketbook issues for Kentuckians and voters across the country."

AARP polling data show nationwide, most 50+ voters said candidates' stances on Social Security and Medicare are very important factors affecting their vote this November. Among those surveyed, 70% want candidates to support policies to help aging family members live independently at home, and 38% of respondents said they are currently caregivers.

Transportation issues continue to be a challenge for older voters who either want to vote in person or need to return an absentee ballot. Wegnast noted Louisville and Lexington provide bus services to the polls on Election Day.

"In your county, you may be able to locate resources at your local County Clerk's Office," Wegnast pointed out. "The community action agency in your county may be able to help you find a ride to the polls if you need one."

Recent redistricting changes may affect which candidates appear on Kentuckians' ballots. Voters can find their polling place at the Commonwealth's State Board of Elections website. The nonpartisan election website Vote411.org provides personalized candidate information, voter registration details, polling place locations and other election information for Kentucky voters.
