Iglesias en California se unen para dar fin a la Pobreza

La presente situación económica decadente está causando preocupación para el futuro de los niños en California. Casi uno en cada cinco niños viven en la pobreza, y es por eso que organizaciones de Fe en California se unen a miles de iglesias, sinagogas, mezquitas, templos y otros lugares de oración en toda la nación para la XVII Observación Nacional anual del Sabbat de los Niños. Se unen este fin de semana para hacer un llamado a las necesidades de los niños de este país que sufren de pobreza.

Saudeka Shabazz con el Fondo para la Defensa de los Niños (Childrens Defense Fund) dice que este año la celebración se enfocará en el llamado a dar fin a la pobreza por parte del Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"El llamado del Doctor King fue el de eliminar esta cultura de violencia, de militarismo, de materialismo excesivo, básicamente nuestras enfermedades de la sociedad que no están creando un ambiente sano para que nuestros hijos crezcan y prosperen."

Este es el segundo año que la Iglesia Metodista Unida Culver-Palms participará en el Sabbat de los Niños. El Pastor de dicha iglesia, Rich Bolin, dice que uno de los eventos del viernes 17 de Octubre incluirá la actuación de la fábula "Sopa de Piedras," la cuál el cree es una buena metáfora para como deberíamos comportarnos como comunidad durante estos tiempos económicos tan difíciles.

"Creo que de eso se trata, de no acaparar, de no tener miedos y cerrarnos por adentro, si no que de tener los brazos abiertos y ser generosos con otros encontrando así que hay abundancia para todos."

Ella dice que aunque ha habido ganancias desde 1960, esta última década ha visto un incremento del 15 por ciento en el número de niños viviendo en la pobreza.
