Detroit, MI - With the nation's highest unemployment rate and the auto industry struggling, Michigan feels a sense of urgency. Last week, representatives of the Obama administration spent two days in the state listening to residents' concerns.

The administration will get more input from Michiganers this week. On Saturday, a gathering in Detroit will address the state's economic situation. The Michigan Policy Summit will bring together community leaders and policy experts to discuss Michigan's top priorities and find solutions to re-energize the economy.

Summit coordinator Brandon White says one of those priorities will be clean energy.

"Given our highly skilled workforce, primarily from the automotive industry, we really need to capitalize on that. And if we don't want to invest in clean energy, we're really going to miss out on green jobs in the new economy."

White says other major issues to be discussed will be health care reform, employment reform and the foreclosure crisis. Addressing these four primary issues and developing solutions will make Michigan a more desirable place to live, he adds.

"We want Michigan to be a place where people want to come, a place at the forefront of providing a good quality of life. Turning these issues around is key in getting us to that place."

Information about the Michigan Policy Summit, which will be held at the Cobo Center, Detroit, is at www.mipolicysummit.org.
