Des Moines, IA – Para los fans de libros, hay una búsqueda por obtener un tesoro en Des Moines que beneficiará a una organización sin fines de lucro local. Cada año miles de libros son donados para la venta de libros del Planned Parenthood del Heartlland. Muchos no valen más de $2.00, pero este año fue donado un libro único firmado por el autor Martin Luther King. La voluntaria Wanda Anderson dice que es el primer libro que escribió este gran personaje, titulado Stride Toward Freedom que fue publicado en 1958. Ella dice que llevó el libro al Antiques Road Show para avaluar en Des Moines.

"Lo llevé a la sección de libros y había dos señores de Boston que dijeron que en su tienda de Boston lo las personas pagarían entre $1,500 a $2,500 por él."

Añade que no tienen idea de quien donó ese libro.

"Tenemos un buzón de donaciones de libros que es accesible las 24 horas del día, 7 días de la semana. Entonces nunca sabemos quién dona cuales libros, así que fue una gran sorpresa recibir un libro tan especial."

Dice Anderson que han determinado su valor oficial a ser $1,750 y que estará en la sección de colecciones en la venta de libros que abre mañana en el sitio de la feria estatal Iowa State Farigrounds. Todo el dinero recaudado de la venta, la cual dura del 16 al 20 de Septiembre, será utilizado para servicios de educación que provee la organización Planned Parenthood del Heartland.
