LANSING, Mich. - As more and more of the kinks in the federal government's Healthcare.gov website are resolved, Michiganders are still urged to take their time making wise choices, according to a group dedicated to connecting health insurance consumers with the resources needed to make informed decisions.

Enroll America state director Erin Knott stressed that picking out an insurance plan isn't something to rush into, particularly for the 1.2 million Michiganders who are currently uninsured.

"You don't go to the car lot and just pick out the first car you see," Knott cautioned. "People are wanting to make smart decisions and kind of compare the plans side by side, and then ultimately see what kind of financial assistance they qualify for."

Knott said that every day her team is hearing more and more success stories from those who have been able to sign up on the site, but that, given the importance of this decision, she hopes Michiganders will take advantage of the resources available to talk through all the options.

"We're also helping people find those community assisters that are in their neighborhood, or we can link them up to somebody who can help them kind of navigate the process," Knott declared.

President Obama has promised that all major issues with the Healthcare.gov website will be resolved by the end of this month.

Under the Affordable Care Act, open enrollment for 2014 coverage runs through March 31 of next year. However, those wanting coverage to begin in January must enroll by this December 15. Enroll America offers educational forums, volunteer assistance, and coverage calculators on its GetCoveredAmerica.org website.
