BOISE, Idaho -- Gov. Brad Little and AARP Idaho are hosting town halls every Tuesday to give updates on the coronavirus.

In the meetings, streamed live online, Idahoans are encouraged to submit their questions about COVID-19. Health officials also are part of the hour-long segments providing information for the public.

AARP Idaho director Lupe Wissel moderates the tele-town halls and said the ability to speak directly with the governor gives folks from a variety of communities a chance to voice their concerns.

"Every community is different. Some communities are more impacted than others," Wissel said. "So to have different communities call in and ask questions about their own communities, I think, has been extremely helpful."

The conversations air at noon Mountain time and will continue each Tuesday through May 26.

Little has extended the state's stay-at-home order through the end of April since last week's town hall. And Wissel expects today's meeting to focus in part on the new order.

Wissel said one issue that's important right now is social isolation among seniors. She said folks feeling lonely can go to AARP's community-connections website and speak with a trained volunteer.

"It's about connecting people with others and hopefully fighting the isolation among the older population," she said. "So it's really important to know that we all help each other in our own communities, and this is an opportunity to do that."

While the meetings are geared toward older adults, Wissel said the information is relevant for everyone.
