PHOENIX - At least 100,000 people are expected for Sunday's March for America in Washington, D.C., including 20 members of the Arizona-based Border Action Network. The rally will urge immediate action by Congress to overhaul U.S. immigration policy.

The Network's director, Jennifer Allen, says reform needs to be part of the economic recovery discussion.

"Immigration reform should be part of a jobs bill, should be part of an economic recovery bill. This is a fundamental solution that's needed for the country right now."

Allen believes viable reform measures should put the estimated 12 million people in the U.S. who cannot work legally on a path to permanent residency and citizenship. This would not amount to amnesty, she says, as some have charged, because those who are in the country illegally would be required to pay a considerable fine. Still, Allen acknowledges the nation is deeply divided over immigration, but says it's a barrier that can be overcome.

"I think what we need to see is really strong leadership that can break through the political polarization. We need to see our president take a strong stand and make really clear to all Americans that immigration reform is in everybody's best interests."

Aside from economic arguments, Allen sees immigration reform as a moral imperative. She says the current process that separates parents from their children violates a basic, essential human right.

"The United States has been, and should continue to be, a place in which everyone can fulfill their dream. If that dream is being part of this country, then they should be able to do that. We should create a path for people to be able to do that."

While in Washington, Border Action Network members also plan to meet with Arizona's congressional delegation to discuss immigration and border issues.
