"Where are the Jobs, Congressman?" Rally Set for Bass Nashua Town Hall

NASHUA, N.H. - U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass, R-N.H., has scheduled two town hall-style meetings Saturday in Jaffrey and Nashua - and like many members of Congress touring their districts this summer, he'll face questions about creating jobs.

Kristin Locke will be among the constituents with a message for the state's delegation at a rally for jobs in Nashua. Locke worked for the state as a tax auditor until she was laid off at the end of June under the new state budget.

In an era of bailouts for banks and tax breaks for the wealthy, Locke says, it's time for politicians' priorities to change.

"I don't agree with the way that Congress is handling things. I don't agree with the way that our representatives, who were voted in by the people and are supposed to work for the people that they represent - I don't understand the mentality."

Locke says she and others will ask why it's OK to give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy when it seems very few jobs are being created, banks aren't lending and it's the middle class that is shrinking.

"You know, 'We need to cut taxes for our wealthiest to create jobs for everybody else.' That obviously hasn't worked, 'cause if it did, we wouldn't be in the state that we're in now."

Bass's town-hall events are scheduled for 10 a.m. at Jaffrey Public Library, 38 Main St., Jaffrey, and at 1 p.m. at the Nashua City Hall, 229 Main St., Nashua.
