"Legacy on Wheels" Rolls Through Ohio

Columbus & Canton, OH – A 28-ton, biodiesel-powered "history lesson on wheels" is rolling through Ohio today and Saturday to focus attention on what sponsors say are the nation's economic woes and how they affect everyday working people. It's a bus featuring interactive displays, including statistics on rising consumer prices, growing unemployment rates and the increase in the number of working Americans without health insurance. Americans United for Change is funding the bus and tour.

Jeremy Funk, a bus crew member, says the sponsors want people to think about what has happened over the past eight years of the Bush presidency.

"This not about attacking the president on a personal level, by any means. It is about holding him and Congress responsible for their failed policies."

Even in tough economic times, Funk says, America is still one of the richest countries, although politicians' priorities for spending tax revenue have changed in recent years.

"They want to spend $3 trillion in Iraq, but they say 'no' to children’s health care. They say 'no' to fully funding No Child Left Behind."

Critics say economic problems are tied to more factors than just who is in office at the time they happen, and they argue that some trends reflect policies put in place beyond eight years ago.

The bus will visit more than 150 cities over the next three months. Information about the bus route is available online at www.bushlegacytour.com.
