An Anniversary Many WV Residents Don't Want to See Again

March 16, 2007

Flowers, music and speeches are planned for anniversary events around West Virginia this weekend, but the parties are being attended by folks who don't want to see another anniversary next year. It's the 4th anniversary of the Iraq war. Paul Sheridan with West Virginia Patriots for Peace is organizing an event in Charleston. He says the planned speeches and music will repeat the call to bring U.S. troops home and end the war.

"A completely needless and senseless war that has cost over 3,100 Americans at this point killed, and the numbers on the
Iraqi deaths are in the hundreds of thousands."

President Bush has announced plans to increase the troop presence in Iraq, saying it's needed to stop terrorist activities. But Sheridan believes four years is "enough."

"It's a tragic event. I think when it was sold to us, with deception and false pretenses, nobody had any idea it would take this long."
