Health Insurance Diagnosis for Kids: Keep It Simple

"Pay the rent, or buy medication. It's a common story in California being made public in the health insurance debate, but there's another health care choice getting attention, too. Nina Moreno with the Children's Defense Fund says they've been working with a family with two children in Taft, and both kids needed expensive medicine at the same time."

“They needed to decide which of the two they were going to get medication for. They couldn't afford health insurance from employers, nor privately.”

Marian Wright Edelman, founder of the Children's Defense Fund adds that while it used to be that coverage was usually available for families through work, a reality check shows the "norm" is just the opposite now.

“Ninety percent of all uninsured children live in working households, people playing by the rules, and they can't make ends meet.”
