Manchester, NH - "The Power to Change" climate and energy policy is the focus of a rally in Manchester for Earth Day today, hosted by the Sierra Club. Organizers say the goal is to put energy and climate issues front and center in the November election, and to celebrate New Hampshire's progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by companies and private citizens alike.

One example is Londonderry's Stonyfield Farm, where natural resources project manager Lisa Drake says going green has helped cut the company's carbon footprint and boost its business.

"Being environmentally-minded really is a business advantage for us. Our consumers feel good about supporting family farmers, about supporting environmentally-sound farming practices, and about our own environmental practices and the commitments we keep."

Mark McKenzie with the New Hampshire AFL-CIO says green is good for workers, with job creation in the alternative energy industry, but he says voters have to make it a priority.

"We need the political will to do it, we need the investment to do it, and we need the people of the state of New Hampshire and around the country to really begin the process of demanding an economy that's less dependent on foreign oil."

The Sierra Club is calling on voters to back a "clean energy economy" that it says will create jobs, save consumers money and help deal with global warming.
