Albuquerque, NM - La juventud de Nuevo México tiene opciones para ser lo que quieran ser. Por ello, este sábado jóvenes organizadores planean una demostración sorpresa en el centro comercial Coronado para recalcar que hay muchas opciones para los graduados de la preparatoria que la de formar parte del ejército. Los demostradores comentan que muy amenudo los reclutadores militares se concentran en los estudiantes de minorías e ingresos bajos en las escuelas, quienes piensan que no tienen más opciones para su futuro que unirse al ejército militar.

Tracy Chacon, quién recientemente se graduó de Highland High, dice que este es un mensaje que no alcanza a todos los estudiantes.

"Donde crecí realmente no hay muchas personas que te dicen acerca de esto. Y digo, hay opciones como ir a la universidad, pero ¿sabes? escuchamos más acerca de ir al ejército que de ir a la universidad."

Chacon dice que ella consideró formar parte del ejército, pero cuando leyó la letra pequeña del contrato cambió de opinión.

"Digo sabes que te dan opción para ir a la Universidad y cosas asi; pero más y más de mis amigos están siendo enviados a Irak, y yo pensaba pues ¿cómo irás a la Universidad si estás en Irak? Fue cuando me di cuenta de que no es lo que deseo para mi vida."

Los organizadores de este rally dicen que si existen otras opciones para los que se gradúan de la preparatoria. Mientras tanto, los reclutadores militares niegan la acusación de concentrar sus esfuerzos en reclutar por etnicidad o estatus económico.

La demostración es este sábado a las 2:00 p.m. seguida por una conferencia de prensa enfrente de las oficinas de Albuquerque Public Schools (Escuelas Públicas de Albuquerque).
