San Francisco, CA - Ha llegado a la costa oeste con paradas en Sacramento y hoy en el Área de la Bahía, un tour de costa a costa llamado "Cobertura para toda América." Este tour, patrocinado por la Consumers Union (Unión de Consumidores) ha tenido el propósito de recalcar la necesidad de reformar el sistema de salud y ganar apoyo hacia esta causa. También se presenta el caso a legisladores a nivel estatal en California para que pasen esta legislación que está a punto de ser vista en el foro para voto final.

Betsy Imholz de la Unión de Consumidores, quien también publica la revista Reportes al Consumidor, dice que esta legislación mejorará la calidad de cuidado médico y ayudara a que los californianos eviten ser estafados por seguros médicos chuecos.

"Este año estamos intentando la primera fase, la cuál es comenzar a fundar esta reforma e instalarla en su lugar. El año próximo vamos a regresar y continuar expandiendo y construyendo esta reforma."

Esta legislación va a necesitar reportes públicos del costo y calidad de servicio brindado por parte de los proveedores, hacer un mandato para hacer públicos los récords de infecciones adquiridas en hospitales y establecer un estándar de beneficios mínimos para las pólizas de seguro médico.

Imholz dice que el tour "Cubriendo a América" ha viajado más de doce mil millas y grabado en video las historias de más de 60 personas a lo largo del viaje.

"Cada historia es única, pero se hacen disponibles al público en nuestro sitio web con un tema en común, el cual es el que la población en general se sienten inseguros acerca de su cobertura médica y los costos asociados con ella junto con la calidad de servicios que reciben."

Llegando al Área de la Bahía hoy, los eventos de este tour en California son patrocinados por la organización Health Access California (Acceso a la Salud de California) y la California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (Red de Salud Pan-Étnica de California).
