Madison, WI - State lawmakers had better come to work prepared to do a lot of listening today. That's because it's conservation lobby day under the capitol dome in Madison, and more than 600 citizens from every corner of the state plan to do the talking - aimed at passing a slate of conservation priorities.

Anne Sayers, program director of the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, says the conservationists will be holding one-on-one meetings with their elected representatives.

"We'll have more than 630 citizens, and they represent every single one of the 132 legislative districts."

Sayers says those involved represent all kinds of different conservation concerns.

"Really, anybody who drinks water or breathes air has a stake in these issues, and they plan to come to Madison and tell their legislators about it."

The citizens are from a coalition of 85 different groups concerned about four major priorities they want lawmakers to deal with. Those areas of focus are: preserving groundwater; promoting a strong clean energy economy; restoring an independent, rather than appointed, Department of Natural Resources Secretary; and protecting the state's drinking water. The citizen lobbyists represent many different conservation viewpoints, from hunters to environmentalists, but
Sayers says all of the 85 groups participating in lobby day have common goals.

"Those are four top-tier issues that, collectively, all conservation-minded citizens are paying attention to this session."
