Mothers’ Best Gift to Children is Time

May 8, 2009

Nashville, TN –- A Tennessee-based parent advocacy organization has a message for Mother’s Day 2009: children don’t need more toys, more spending money or more activities as much as they need more of their parents’ time.

Barbara Nicholson, co-founder of Attachment Parenting International (API), says the message has greater meaning in a difficult economy.

"The connection with Mother’s Day for so many families facing some tough economic times is that loving your children and giving them your time is much more important than giving them material things."

API advocates a parenting approach that was once the norm, adds Nicholson.

"We’re trying to get people to simplify their lives, not have to have all these gadgets and gear; trying to go back to the basics."

While API is making a special effort to get its message out on Mother's Day, the group hopes fathers hear it as well.
