Des Moines, IA - Como parte del Día Nacional del Examen V-I-H, mañana se ofrecerán exámenes gratis en Iowa. Todd Buchacker, director regional de servicios de salud para Planned Parenthood (Paternidad Planeada), sospecha que hay muchos Iowanos que pudieran tener la enfermedad sin saberlo, y el examen gratuito ayudará a prevenir la diseminación del virus V-I-H y del Sida o AIDS, por sus siglas en inglés.

En años recientes se ha presentado un incremento pronunciado en el número de casos de V-I-H en Iowa, con el mayor salto entre los jóvenes entre 15 y 25 años. En esa categoría, el año pasado hubo un 45 por ciento de aumento, el mayor desde 1998, año en el que el Departamento de Salud Pública de Iowa comenzó a llevar registro.

Este sábado, Día Nacional del Examen V-I-H, la organización Planned Parenthood (Paternidad Planeada) y el “AIDS Project of Central Iowa” (Proyecto AIDS del Centro de Iowa) patrocinan un examen gratuito en el estacionamiento del “Polk County Health Department” (Departamento de Salud del Condado de Polk). Buchacher dice que todo es cuestión de prevención.

Si sabes que tienes V-I-H negativo o V-I-H positivo, puedes reducir tus factores de riesgo; tanto de adquirir el virus si eres negativo, como de contagiarlo si eres positivo.

Buchacker dice que cualquiera puede acudir para solicitar este examen, que no implica riesgo, así como recibir orientación durante o después del examen.

Es un pequeño piquete en un dedo, justo como se hace para un examen de sangre, y tarda unos 15 minutos en tener los resultados. Todo es confidencial.

Dice que la organización Planned Parenthood (Paternidad Planeada) estará presente para ayudar a educar al público mientras se entregan los resultados.

El Departamento de Salud del Condado de Polk está situado en el 1907 de la avenida Carpenter en Des Moines, y el horario de los exámenes será de la 1 a las 4 de la tarde.
