Yellowstone National Park Gets a "Best Idea" Salute in New Series
Wednesday, September 2, 2009
BOZEMAN, Mont. - Yellowstone National Park is saluted as one of the "best ideas" in a new Ken Burns series for public television, and Montanans can get a sneak peek at the series tonight before it makes its debut later this month. Writer and producer Dayton Duncan says the six-part, 12-hour series focuses on the history and beauty of national parks.
"The most magnificent and sacred places in our nation should be preserved not for the exclusive enjoyment of the rich, the powerful, or royalty, but for everyone."
Duncan says the inspiration for the series, titled "National Parks: America's Best Idea," came eleven years ago when he took his young family on a national parks vacation, which brought back memories of a similar trip when he was a child. He says it took him less than a minute to convince Ken Burns to sign on to the project.
"The story of how nature plays into the role of National Parks is part of our story. It does have the best cinematography we think we've ever compiled."
It's believed the series will help boost national parks visitor numbers over the coming year.
The preview of the series is being offered in Bozeman tonight at 7 at the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture main theater, and it's believed the series will help boost national park visits in the coming year. It will air on Montana Public Television starting September 27.
