La Tierra del Encanto será más encantadora con el tiempo

SANTA FE, N. M. - Las fuerzas que han creado y transformado el hermoso paisaje de Nuevo México, el cual ha inspirado a artistas como Goergia O'Keefe, continuará transformándose dramáticamente en el futuro. Cientos de años de erosión han producido los paisajes que distinguen a Nuevo México, particularmente en la parte norte del estado. Según el geólogo veterano Kirt Kempter, es un proceso que continuará por muchos años más.

"Creo que es una buena señal para la parte norte de Nuevo México porque la erosión es lo que produce la topografía espectacular y el paisaje que disfrutamos en esta parte del estado."

Kempter comenta que hace miles de años Nuevo México era muy distinto, ya que la Tierra del Encanto se encontraba a nivel del mar.

"Probablemente se parecía mucho a lo que hoy es el área de la costa del Golfo en Texas y Louisiana, con ríos que entran y salen que forman deltas."

Kempter dará una plática esta noche acerca de las fuerzas que han creado los paisajes en el área de Abiquiu, la cual inspiró tanto a O'Keefe.

La vida y trabajo de O'Keefe han visto una resurgencia de atención gracias a la película filmada para TV en el área con un número de actores de Nuevo México. La plática de Kempter es el inicio de una serie de discursos sobre el medio ambiente de Nuevo México y el Oeste.
