CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Wyoming gets kudos for forging ahead with wind energy production, but a new report from Headwaters Economics finds the state will have to do much more than that to take advantage of its potential in the emerging green energy economy.

Report author Julia Haggerty says their analysis is an in-depth look at the Rocky Mountain States, and Wyoming is lagging behind overall. She sees a need for stronger state policies and incentives.

"An emphasis not only on renewable energy generation, but ways that people are using energy more creatively and conserving energy, and there's a whole host of products and services that go beyond the wind turbines."

Energy efficiency products, components and services are cited as examples of green economy potentials for Wyoming.

Haggerty says Wyoming needs a deliberate strategy on the green economy front to create consistent growth.

"Incentives and initiatives that demonstrate that the state really wants to capture all those other companies that are involved in innovative products and services related to clean energy and energy efficiency."

Colorado is listed in the report as the state doing all the right things to take advantage of luring green companies and industries, as well as tapping into available federal money. Montana, Utah and New Mexico were also analyzed.

The full report, Clean Energy Leadership in the Rockies: Competitive Positioning in the Emerging Green Economy, is at www.headwaterseconomics.org/greeneconomy.
