Examen de VIH con resultados en 20 minutos o menos

DES MOINES, Iowa – En el pasado, el proceso para obtener los resultados del examen para el VIH involucraba una espera de varios días, pero ahora existe el llamado Examen Rápido del VIH, el cual da resultados en minutos. El Planned Parenthood del Heartland comenzará a administrar estos exámenes a partir del 1 de Enero en sus 23 Centros de Salud.

Kathy Bumgardner, gerenta del Planned Parenthood de Newton-Knoxville, dice que es importante poder saber los resultados con rapidez y certeza.

"Uno en cuatro personas infectadas con VIH no saben que lo tienen. El poder tomar un examen y saber el resultado ayuda a prevenir que menos personas adquieran el VIH; y ahora si vienes a Planned Parenthood puedes obtener el examen rápido del VIH y no preocuparte por esperar tanto por el resultado."

También comenta que el examen solo necesita una gota de sangre de la punta del dedo y los resultados son obtenidos en menos de 20 minutos. ¿Quién debe hacerse el examen?

"Cualquier persona que se sienta preocupada sobre el VIH, personas que tienen relaciones sin protección, o las que utilizan drogas con inyecciones; estas son las personas que deberían hacerse el examen."

Bumgardner añade que aquellos que su resultado sea positivo podrán tomar decisiones que los mantendrá saludables por más tiempo, y aprender a cómo evitar pasar el virus a alguien más.
