NASHVILLE, Tenn. – ¿Se imagina usted cómo que sería su retiro sin Social Security o Medicare? La AARP organiza una reunión y está animando a los Tennesseés a que den su opinión sobre cómo conservar fuertes a Medicare y al Social Security durante los años por venir. La reunión será televisada en vivo desde el recinto de la ciudad (Town Hall) de Nashville, y será transmitida el 17 de mayo por RFD-TV. Margo Seay, presidenta de la AARP Tennessee, dice que para las personas es muy importante hablar y ser escuchadas.

"La gente trabajó para ganar dinero y ponerlo en esos programas, y confía en que sigan ahí mientras su edad avanza."

Seay agrega que muchos americanos no tienen certeza sobre su futuro financiero cuando se trata de Medicare y Social Security. Dice que además se preocupan por el futuro financiero de sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos. El programa televisivo se transmitirá en vivo a las 9 de la noche desde los estudios de RFD-TV en Nashville. La cena será servida a las 7 pm, antes de la transmisión, y las puertas se cerrarán a las 8:30. El evento "Te has ganado el derecho de hablar" está orientado a generar una retroalimentación que será turnada a los legisladores en Washington.

Seay afirma que las conversaciones comunitarias y los varios encuentros en el recinto de la ciudad que ya se han tenido en todo el estado, demuestran que la gente quiere que los políticos de Washington abran sus puertas y salgan a discutir los cambios que podrían afectar la salud de todos y su seguridad en el retiro.

"Me está llegando mucha información de todo el estado. La gente muestra mucho interés y realmente siente que se ha ganado el derecho de opinar cómo reformar Medicare y Social Security."

Seay dice que los resultados del cuestionario y los comentarios que se recaben durante la gira por los Town Halls (recintos de las ciudades) serán compartidos con la Casa Blanca y con los legisladores del Congreso.
