DES MOINES, Iowa - Se espera que la Venta de Libros de Otoño 2012 organizada por Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (Paternidad Planeada de Heartland), que comienza este jueves, genere a la organización más de 200 mil dólares. Son 600 mil libros nuevos y usados, revistas, rompecabezas, CDs, DVD y juegos los que hay disponibles en esta Venta Anual de Libros de Otoño, que durará hasta el lunes 15. Wanda Anderson, directiva en Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (Paternidad Planeada de Heartland), dice que atrae a miles de personas provenientes de todo el Poniente Medio, que acuden a la caza de gangas y tesoros coleccionables.

“Viene gente de Alabama, lo sabemos, y de Illinois y Minnesota, y casi siempre tenemos una muchedumbre de 6 a 8 mil personas durante los cinco días que dura la venta.”

Hay objetos de colección disponibles, como documentos de descargo de la Guerra Civil y muchos libros primera edición firmados, algunos del Siglo XIX. Anderson explica que los voluntarios examinan literalmente toneladas de objetos donados, evaluando su viabilidad y valor.

“Más de 150 voluntarios de todo el año regalan su tiempo anualmente para marcar todos los libros. Cada persona se especializa en una categoría y ellas marcan todos los ejemplares de esa categoría, y marcan sus libros de acuerdo a un valor estimado.”

La venta, que se celebra en el edificio 4-H de los terrenos de la feria, tiene una distribución completamente nueva. La entrada el día de inauguración cuesta diez dólares por persona, y vale para toda la venta. Los compradores son bienvenidos gratis.
