SACRAMENTO, Calif. - La Affordable Care Act (Ley de Cuidado Asequible) permitirá a las personas del estado que no tengan seguro de cobertura médica, registrarse y adquirirla a partir del próximo mes, gracias a una plataforma comercial llamada "Covered California" (California asegurada).

Mark Beach, Director de Comunicación de la AARP California, dice que hay varios recursos de apoyo en línea para guiar a las personas a través del proceso. El sitio de internet HealthLawFacts.org tiene información útil sobre la Ley de Cuidado Asequible (Affordable Care Act), y el portal HealthLawAnswers.org es un sitio interactivo que hace un conjunto de preguntas sencillas para generar un reporte personalizado.

"Realmente son sólo siete preguntas: dónde vives, cuál es tu rango de edad, estado familiar, et cétera. Y con base en esas respuestas, el sitio da una guía."

Los costos reales y los detalles de los planes de salud estarán listos hasta el primero de octubre, pero la AARP y Beach esperan que la gente se dé un tiempo antes para capacitarse y poder tomar la decisión correcta. La Affordable Care Act (Ley del Cuidado Asequible) exige que la mayoría de la población esté asegurada en enero. Beach asegura que, para lograr eso, es importante desmitificar la ley entre gente de todas las edades.

"Incluso si son de más de 65 años y cuentan con Medicare, tal vez tengan hijos, nietos, otros parientes que puedan resultar afectados por esta ley de cuidado de la salud."

Cuando cada quién reporte sus impuestos de 2014, habrá de reportar los seguros de cobertura de salud. Quienes no tengan cobertura serán penalizados con el uno por ciento, pero en 2017 el castigo crecerá a dos y medio por ciento.
