RAMSEY, Minn. - With many Minnesota families still needing help putting food on the table, some churches across the state will be "Packing the Pews" this weekend to help the hungry.

Lord of Life Church in Ramsey is among those taking part and asking parishioners to bring grocery donations on Sunday, said Michelle Anderson, the church's director of operations and administration.

"As a church, we have a real passion for serving those in need," she said. "We feel like we are called to do what God calls us to do, and that's to serve those in need."

Pack the Pews is part of the March Campaign from Minnesota FoodShare, the state's largest annual food drive.

In addition to Pack the Pews, Anderson said Lord of Life will make another big push for donations on March 29.

"When we're going to have, for six hours, people at five local grocery stores collecting food from grocery store patrons who come in," she said. "When they come in, we'll ask them if they would be willing to purchase anything on a list that we give them, and that all donations would go to the food shelf."

The goal of the the March Campaign is to collect enough money and food to support some 300 food shelves across the state with all their needs for six full months. More information on how to take part is online at the Minnesota FoodShare website, mnfoodshare.gmcc.org.
