New Super-PAC Launched to Promote Progressive Issues

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

LAS VEGAS — A new political organization, called "For Nevada's Future," launched Monday along with a super-PAC called the "For Nevada's Future Action Fund.” The groups, aimed at promoting progressive causes in the Silver State, are part of "For Our Future," a national coalition that includes labor and education groups such as the AFL-CIO and the National Education Association.

"Basically, our overarching goal is to ensure presidential, U.S. Senate, and local victories in the five most contested states,” said Artie Blanco, the group's new Nevada state director. "We're doing that through issue-building and investing in local partnerships."

The new organization will work with state groups such as the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, Battle Born Progress, Next Gen, Make it Work and Mi Familia Vota.

According to Blanco, they will work to inform voters on issues of public education, climate change, immigration reform and shared economic prosperity.

"After the 2014 election the priority shifted I think for the new leadership in the Legislature,” Blanco said. “They cared more about corporations and businesses and not so much about workers, and where they actually tried to take away overtime."

The group recently opened an office in Las Vegas and will soon open another in Reno. The Las Vegas office will host its first public events on July 21 and 28: viewing parties for the Republican and Democratic National conventions, when Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton each formally accept their party's nomination.

For Our Future is also active in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin.
