BERKELEY, Calif. –– Se están organizando varios eventos grandes para oponerse a los mítines de la derecha que se planea realizar este fin de semana en San Francisco y Berkeley, y las autoridades toman medidas para mantener separados a los grupos.

Se esperan miles de asistentes a las protestas opositoras anti-odio que habrá este fin de semana en San Francisco y Berkeley, que marcharán con la intención de opacar los mensajes de las manifestaciones cercanas de los derechistas.

Son varios los eventos masivos planeados para este sábado en Ocean Beach denunciando el racismo, el domingo en la Plaza del Civic Center de San Francisco y otro más el sábado cerca del campus de la Universidad de California en Berkeley.

Cathy Campbell, Presidenta de la Federación de Maestros de Berkeley (Berkeley Federation of Teachers), colabora en la organización del evento de East Bay, para protestar pacíficamente contra grupos que afirma han salido de las sombras para promover el odio y la intolerancia.

“Estos grupos se sienten empoderados; en gran parte es consecuencia de nuestro Presidente. Ven el apoyo y se sienten envalentonados. Y para la gente de buena fe, la mejor respuesta es salir y mostrar que esos no son los valores de la mayoría.”

Un grupo que se hace llamar “Patriot Prayer”, Oración Patriótica, planea una manifestación para el sábado cerca del Puente Golden Gate, en San Francisco. Otro grupo organiza para el domingo un evento llamado “No al Marxismo en los Estados Unidos”, en el Parque del Civic Center en Berkeley, con oradores que fueron vinculados a protestas violentas en esa ciudad hace pocos meses.

Las autoridades de ambas ciudades toman medidas para mantener separados a los dos bandos. Matt Meyer, vicepresidente y profesor de Berkeley High School, dice que la “Protesta de Berkeley Contra el Odio” (“Berkeley Rally Against Hate”) será pacífica, pero tienen 50 técnicos médicos listos para intervenir si hay problemas.

“La gente de la comunidad de Berkeley y de la Gran Bahía Este puede venir y hacer oír su voz, y manifestarnos juntos – que no seremos complacientes, que nos pondremos de pie y diremos ‘Esta no es la sociedad en la que queremos vivir’.”

Por separado se planean también contra-protestas pacíficas solidarias con los eventos del área de la Bahía este sábado en Fresno, San Diego y otros puntos del estado.
