Un proyecto de ley que exige a las escuelas de California que hagan pública toda su información salarial irá al Comité de Asignaciones del Senado estatal.

En este momento, solo alrededor de una cuarta parte de los distritos escolares cumplen con una solicitud del Contralor del Estado para entregar datos sobre cuánto ganan los empleados, desde el superintendente hasta los directores, maestros y guardianes.

Entonces, el Proyecto de Ley del Senado 924, del que es coautor el Senador estatal Steven Glazer, requeriría que los distritos escolares cumplan.

"Estas cosas solo salen con transparencia, con divulgación," asegura Glazer. "Estoy menos interesado en lo que le pagamos a cada maestro de escuela porque creo que es demasiado bajo; pero más interesado en los salarios excesivos que algunos distritos escolares están pagando a sus principales administradores."

El estado pondría la base de datos a disposición del público en la web. Algunos distritos escolares se quejan de que el requisito sería oneroso, especialmente porque ya están enviando datos sobre rangos de salarios al Departamento de Educación del estado.

Glazer señala que otras entidades locales, como distritos especiales, condados y ciudades, ya están obligadas a enviar sus datos de nómina.

"La legislación que creo este portal de transparencia para los salarios lo hizo en 2014," dice Glazer. "Fue una visión amplia de la Legislatura y el gobernador de que no debería haber excepciones. El pretexto que las escuelas están usando para evitar esa divulgación no es correcta. Y mi legislación busca corregirlo."

Glazer es uno de los seis candidatos que se postulan para el cargo de contralor estatal para el otoño.
